Land reform: Some people say the best way to help the poor is by breaking up large landholdings and giving more people a chance to manage their own farms and small enterprises. Others say it is too late for any sort of land reform and that the provision of public services (education and health care) is the best way to help the poor. Should economic policy for the poor emphasize giving equal opportunity for earning a living or providing direct services to everyone.
The End of Poverty
“The End of Poverty” is about the roots of global poverty. Hunger and deprivation are not portrayed as problems that can be solved with technology, foreign aid, or development planning. Instead, this film reveals the ways poverty arises from neocolonial policies that lock poor countries into a state of dependency. Foreign aid and economic development have been frauds, costing millions of people their lives. By tracing the global history that has led up to the current situation, “The End of Poverty” dispels a number of myths. It then offers a new framework with which we might begin to address the true causes of poverty.-
